How often am I required to have PAT testing carried out?

As PAT Testing is a crucial legal requirement, it could mean that unless you have an up to date test, the insurance on your property may be invalid.  The frequency at which you should have a PAT Tester in is recommended based on operating environment and type of equipment used and can range from every 3 months to every 48 months.

Is it required that everything that uses a plug is tested?

In order to ensure the safety of the employees operating the appliances and the operational safety of that equipment, anything that is classified as portable electrical appliances should be tested.

Should appliances be labelled to display the fact they have been tested?

After PAT tests have been completed successfully, each and every appliance should be labelled with the results of the test (whether it passed or failed) and either the date for re-testing or the examination date.

Why is it necessary for me to have my appliances PAT tested?

PAT Testing is necessary in order to ensure your company fully adheres to the Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989 and a large number of insurance companies will require it to be done before they renew or start a policy.  If these regulations are not met it can also void any existing insurance coverage your business may have.
